Update 1/27/25: Meter has now reset for 2025.
(Update 1/14/23: Bank of America Premium Rewards meter tracker has reset today and is now showing the $100 as available to be used. Some people like waiting for the tracker to reset so as to be extra safe.)
Bank of America recently launched the Premium Rewards credit card. One of the card benefits is a $100 annual travel incidental credit, this credit is based on a calendar year. As long as your purchase posts within the calendar year it will count towards that credit (even if the credit itself posts the next calendar year). Officially the following qualify for the credit:
- Fees on domestic-originated flights on certain U.S.-domestic airline carriers that include: preferred seating upgrades, ticket change/cancellation fees, checked baggage fees, in-flight entertainment, onboard food and beverage charges, and airport lounge fees affiliated with eligible airline carriers.
They list the following merchant category codes as qualifying:
- 3000, 3001, 3057, 3058, 3063, 3066, 3132, 3174, 3196 or 3256
- 3000 – United.
- 3001 – American Airlines.
- 3057 – East/West Airline (Australia)
- 3058 – Delta
- 3063 – US Airways
- 3066 – Southwest
- 3132 – Frontier
- 3174 – Jet Blue
- 3196 – Hawaiin
- 3256 – Alaskan
These don’t qualify:
- Allegiant Air, Spirit Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines.
They specifically exclude the following in the fine print:
- Airline ticket purchases, mileage point purchases, mileage point transfer fees, gift cards, duty-free purchases, award tickets and fees incurred with airline alliance partners do not qualify. Airline incidental fee transactions must be separate from airline ticket charges
As we know what’s listed in the fine print isn’t always what happens in reality so this post aims to provide data points on what does/doesn’t trigger the credit. The easiest way to see if something has worked is to do the following (hat tip to Mr G)
- Use the Bank of America app
- Select your Premium Rewards Credit Card
- Click Premium Rewards Benefits
- Indicator shows how much of the credit you’ve used
- Click view activity and it will show an itemized list of the transactions that have triggered the credit
Keep in mind that the fine print also states that it takes up to seven days for the credit to post to your account after the charge has posted to your account.

Please share your datapoints in the comments, make sure you use the app method to see if it has triggered the credit or not. List what you purchased, what airline it was for and how much the charge was as well.
Don’t see anything regarding Avianca carry on luggage? Anybody have any luck triggering the credit with this airline in general?
I have 3 Premium Rewards CCs. Just bought $100 AA e-gift on 4/12 on two cards. 4/15 the indicator bar is at $100 used showing the AA transaction on both cards. Saving the third credit for a real flight in May for baggage fees.
DP : Two southwest tickets for $49 and $48 were credited within 7 days.
3/22 – UA $100 Travelbank credit purchased for “Self” (heard reports that “Gift” doesn’t work)
3/26 – Tracker updated as $100 used for 2025
Credit still not posted to statement, maybe after next statement close.
3/12 – JetBlue $5.60 fees credited
3/13 – AA $104 airfare not credited
I do not see “Premium Rewards Benefits” in my BOA app 🙁
Are the instructions above still valid?
3/10/2025 Southwest one way for $95.38 – Meter Moved 3/18/2025
$88 one way on Delta did not work
DP
Purchased $300 AA gift card – no credit applied
Prior year purchase (3) $100 AA gift cards – credits were applied
Attempting a $100 AA gift card and $100 UA TravelBank today (3/12)
Will report back on outcome
Update 3/19:
Airline incidental tracker went up $100 bc of American Airline gift card
Will continue to track another week before giving up the UA TravelBank credit as a lost cause.
how did this turn out?
Any luck? Did a $100 UA travel bank as well this month, 17 March, and just waiting to see what happens. Cleared pending status on the 19th.
Update for a data point – it took a while, but on 22 March, BofA credited the $100 for this UA Travel Bank purchase. Gonna top off the credit I have left to for more of that.
Update 3/21:
Airline incidental tracker went up to $200 indicating that the UA TravelBank $100 purchase also triggered the credit.
Lesson learned: DO NOT buy AA cards in $300 increments!
Purchased UA Travelbank on 02/14/25, credit received on 02/21/25
Thanks. That’s 3.5 weeks ago. I don’t see any successful DP for the last 10 days or so..
Anyone purchased $100 UA travel bank recently and got $100 credited? Please share timeline. Thanks.
